About Julia's House

Julia’s House offers day care 6 days a week and this year aims to open the Hospice for 24 hours at weekends and further increase the hours of care provided for these children. Julia’s House is also dedicated to running more social events for the families to relieve the pressure of their daily lives.

Julia’s House only receives about 3% of funding from the government and relies on the Dorset community to raise the rest of the money. Loanfinder is one of the companies who are very happy to support and raise money to help the Hospice in their dedicated work for these children.

Julia’s House is the only Hospice in Dorset dedicating to helping children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. The aim is to try and improve and maximise the quality of life for these children of which the majority are unlikely to live beyond 18 years.

Julia's House History

Julia’s House was officially opened in 2006 and now has over 65 nurses and careers and cares for up to 90 children at any one time. Although opened in 2006 the history of this charity goes back some years to Julia Perks who was a dedicated paediatric nurse who identified the need to care for children with life threatening conditions and sought to raise more awareness in her local area of the need to provide respite for both the children and their families. Julia very sadly died of Cancer in 1997 but her family, friends and colleagues wanted to keep Julia’s dedication going in honour of her and set up the Julia Perks foundation to raise money to build a children’s hospice. Until the Hospice was complete the foundation concentrated on providing care and support in the children’s’ own homes.
